Proud Parent

I know I haven't been blogging in awhile I usually post all of my happenings on Facebook. First of all, I am a very proud parent of a 1st grade straight A student for the whole year. He had an end of year award assembly and he got awarded just about every award except perfect attendance, only because he was out for flu like symptoms. The other awards he got was UIL participation, even though he didn't get a chance to participate due to the only UIL meet that were in was on a bad weather day but the principal still awarded the students due to their hard work to prepare for it. And also, he got student of the year, his teacher said he likes to help everyone with their work, such as reading and computers. And his teacher said that he is already reading up to 4th grade sight words. When he got his straight A award, I could hear alot of mouths dropping and amazement in the audience because there were only 11 kids that got it and he was the only boy! He is so proud of his award that he keeps it in his bedroom on his dresser. Now the hard part is that we are moving again and he has to start in a new school. Hopefully, he will not struggle with the work. I'm glad that we are moving due to Ethan's problems at his current school, there were too many problems with the director. I know he will do great as well at his new school, he already knows all his colors, ABC, spell and write his name. His teacher said he is also at the top of his class. Well, anyway, thats it for now.

Really!? Safety/School Issues

My youngest got a paper today informing parents of a Head Start/PreK meeting for parents about safety (car seat safety, fire safety, street safety etc.). It makes so frustrated and angry about this meeting. If the director (not associated with the local school) of Head Start/PreK was really concerned about the children's safety then maybe she needs to look out her door every once in a while and see how many kids are unproperly restrained in vehicles and/or playing in the road. Every day I see young children standing or sitting in the front seat of a car and sometimes its more than one child in the same seat. I want to call the parents in but the cops in this town could care less!! It seems that they want to talk about important things after something tragic happens. We had a 5 year old boy that ran over because he was playing in the street alone! I see kids (younger than 5) playing outside alone all the time and it frightens me, just because of strangers and drivers that like to go 50 mph down a road. You can't let kids be out of your sight these days! This director is not very professional anyway, she called me a liar and I proved her wrong and I got no apology and now she doesn't even look at me or say anything and this incident happened 6 months ago! Anyway, the issues at this meeting parents should already know (its called common sense) and talk to their kids about it too, but NO, some parents think that the school should teach the students these issues and that school is a babysitter. Also, if the school is concerned about student safety than why do they let a 5 and 3 year old wait outside the school for their parent, or how do they know for sure when kids ride the bus that their parents/guardians are home. This town could have kids 3-5 year olds staying home alone, which is a scary thought to me! Some people might think I'm to over protective just because I don't let my kids alone in a public bathroom, are still in a car seat/booster, I walk my kids to class (both of them), not alone in the front or backyard. You may never know!
