Proud Parent

I know I haven't been blogging in awhile I usually post all of my happenings on Facebook. First of all, I am a very proud parent of a 1st grade straight A student for the whole year. He had an end of year award assembly and he got awarded just about every award except perfect attendance, only because he was out for flu like symptoms. The other awards he got was UIL participation, even though he didn't get a chance to participate due to the only UIL meet that were in was on a bad weather day but the principal still awarded the students due to their hard work to prepare for it. And also, he got student of the year, his teacher said he likes to help everyone with their work, such as reading and computers. And his teacher said that he is already reading up to 4th grade sight words. When he got his straight A award, I could hear alot of mouths dropping and amazement in the audience because there were only 11 kids that got it and he was the only boy! He is so proud of his award that he keeps it in his bedroom on his dresser. Now the hard part is that we are moving again and he has to start in a new school. Hopefully, he will not struggle with the work. I'm glad that we are moving due to Ethan's problems at his current school, there were too many problems with the director. I know he will do great as well at his new school, he already knows all his colors, ABC, spell and write his name. His teacher said he is also at the top of his class. Well, anyway, thats it for now.

Really!? Safety/School Issues

My youngest got a paper today informing parents of a Head Start/PreK meeting for parents about safety (car seat safety, fire safety, street safety etc.). It makes so frustrated and angry about this meeting. If the director (not associated with the local school) of Head Start/PreK was really concerned about the children's safety then maybe she needs to look out her door every once in a while and see how many kids are unproperly restrained in vehicles and/or playing in the road. Every day I see young children standing or sitting in the front seat of a car and sometimes its more than one child in the same seat. I want to call the parents in but the cops in this town could care less!! It seems that they want to talk about important things after something tragic happens. We had a 5 year old boy that ran over because he was playing in the street alone! I see kids (younger than 5) playing outside alone all the time and it frightens me, just because of strangers and drivers that like to go 50 mph down a road. You can't let kids be out of your sight these days! This director is not very professional anyway, she called me a liar and I proved her wrong and I got no apology and now she doesn't even look at me or say anything and this incident happened 6 months ago! Anyway, the issues at this meeting parents should already know (its called common sense) and talk to their kids about it too, but NO, some parents think that the school should teach the students these issues and that school is a babysitter. Also, if the school is concerned about student safety than why do they let a 5 and 3 year old wait outside the school for their parent, or how do they know for sure when kids ride the bus that their parents/guardians are home. This town could have kids 3-5 year olds staying home alone, which is a scary thought to me! Some people might think I'm to over protective just because I don't let my kids alone in a public bathroom, are still in a car seat/booster, I walk my kids to class (both of them), not alone in the front or backyard. You may never know!

What we have been up to...

In the past month or two I have been doing tons of reading. I've always liked to read but when you have little kids there no time to find yourself alone to read. Since the kids are older they can read along with me and they understand that when I have my book in my lap that it's time to be quiet. My new favorite authors are Jodi Picoult and Chelsea Cain. I love books that make me keep reading for me and these 2 authors are exactly that.

I've been getting compliments on Caden from his teachers at school. He has been having spelling tests every Friday and he has been making A's on every one of them. And he has made all A's on every report card he has got. We are so proud of him!!

Ethan is still loving school! He cracks me up! There was one day he was in the bathroom doing his business looking at toy magazine. I wonder where he gets that from?! Then when Caden and I is doing homework, he will put his 2 cents in about a word. Which I'm glad that he is catching on with the words I'm teaching Caden.

My Rant...

I need to rant on something that really irritates me. I see some of these normal and average people that has housekeepers and I think that is wrong to an extent. I understand if you travel alot and never home and maybe have a housecleaner once a month or twice a month, but there is no reason for someone to come and do that every week. I think it's a type of laziness. I do my own cleaning, cooking, dishes, laundry and the list goes on. Yes, there are days where I don't want to do anything and get somebody else to do it but what am I or my kids learning? They are not learning responsibility or being self sufficient. And plus, you never know if you can trust the people you come into your home. And I like my privacy. At least I know someone isn't snooping on my computer or at my desk. That's almost on the same line as having nannies for your children. For example, Kate Gosselin has nannies and then she gets upset when her children call her nannies "mommy." And she says that she cooks her own food, but thats BS. She has her own chefs. You might say that I'm jealous but I'm not. I'll get off my soapbox for now.

Busy

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I get really caught up with other things that I totally forget about my blog.

Ethan just turned 4 on Saturday. Wow, how time flies! He is in PreK (3 year old class) and I think he likes it. He has good and bad days. My only decision to put him in school is for social interactions. He used to go to daycare about a year ago before we moved. There is such a lack of children activities (daycare, playgroups) in this town that I'm afraid by the time he gets in 4 year old PreK he will be totally out of his element and be scared.

Caden is about to finish his first year of flag football. I am really surprised on his improvement especially from his first practice. Actually I see improvement in all of his teammates. Also, I've been getting compliments from his teacher almost every week. I think he is her teachers pet. Whenever they have computer stations, she makes him go around and help the other kids. He is a whiz on the computer. He started working/playing on them when he was 3 and now we are starting Ethan on it too. He is able to open my laptop and go straight to the internet by himself. We do have favorite folder saved where all of the game websites are so it's easier access to them. Also, his teacher is trying to challenge him more on his reading, she said he is on the 2nd grade reading level. She wants to let him go ahead and practice on the 2nd grade sight words but afraid he will get ahead of the class. So she said just practice at home on reading harder books. I'm glad that he has my passion for reading. I hope he doesn't lose that.

Well, I guess that's about it! Hopefully be back soon with pics.

Family

Both of my boys are in school now. Caden started last week (1st grade) and Ethan started this morning (PreK 3 year olds). They are growing up so fast. It was just yesterday when I brought Ethan home and Caden starting PreK.

I've been staying home ever since we moved here so I guess I better look for a job, but on the other hand at least I can accomplish some things at the house and run errands without dragging them along. I love my kids but there are some things that are done faster and easier without them by my side 24/7. And I don't have to deal with whining when I go to the store, I can go in and out. The mothers with more than 1 child knows what I mean.

I'm Back!!

I know I haven't posted in a while, nothing big going on. But I can at least post some pics of my family. School is coming up...Caden is going into 1st grade and maybe Ethan can go into to PreK/Head Start (if the classes are not filled up). Boy, they grow up so fast!! I guess if Ethan can't go to school then we will be ok, I'll start teaching him at home until he can start.

Ethan just now learned to ride his bike..the one Santa brought him. He rides it all the time now!!

Caden won this bike for being the top reader (AR reading) in his kindergarten class
